10-week-old kitten has not eaten in 48 hours after foamy vomiting, but is still drinking
What they asked
Hello, I urgently need veterinary advice about my 10-week-old kitten. Symptoms and medical history: My kitten has completely stopped eating for the past 48 hours. She is still drinking water. She seems interested in food and appears hungry, but when I offer her food, she sniffs it and sometimes licks it a few times, then stops without eating. She refuses chicken, tuna, cheese, and other foods she previously ate. She had foamy vomiting. The vomiting was severe two days ago but has now stopped. She sleeps most of the time, but when she wakes up, she is still able to play. I am very concerned because she is only 10 weeks old and has not eaten anything for two days. My questions: What could be causing these symptoms? Could the vomiting and refusal to eat indicate a serious medical condition? What should I do immediately to help her? Does she need emergency treatment or any specific tests? Please help me understand what might be wrong with her and what the safest next steps are. Thank you.
Sorry to hear about your kitten. I would take your kitten to a veterinarian as soon as yoh could. It likely needs supportive care with fluids and calories. The 3 day mark without food for an adult cat is very concerning. A young kitten with 3 days without food would be even more concerning.
