Senior cat straining to pee and poop, with drops of blood: does she need a vet today?
What they asked
Hi, my cat (15-year-old DSH, female) has been struggling with her litterbox this morning. She has successfully urinated and defecated today, though her urination has been smaller, but after she defecated at 10:20 AM, she started going between her two litterboxes straining to both defecate and urinate. After each attempt (sometimes a bit of poop came out), she did a bum scooch on the floor and licked her butt, before going off (sometimes there was a break between visiting litterboxes). She is currently resting comfortably, but I am unsure of what might be happening or if she needs to immediately see a vet. Especially since her litterbox shows signs of similar issues on Friday and Saturday (when I wasn't home), including some blood droplets on the floor on Friday and two droplets in one of the litterboxes on Saturday.
Sorry to hear about your cat. I would get her to the vet as soon as possible. I'm concerned over the constipation and blood. She may become severely constipated and that can be an emergency. It's a good idea to get ahead of why she's straining to defecate.
