Neutered cat with existing stomach problems suddenly pooping outside the litter box

What they asked

My cat wont stop pooping outside of his litter box hes fixed, he has some existing gastrointestinal problems that are being addressed with prescription food but this is new and persistent

Dylan Wilson, DVM Verified VetKY license 293504

Sorry to hear about your poopy situation. Older cats using outside the litterbox is normally pain related. Arthritis is pretty common, so I would try to have a vet visit soon to address potential musculoskeletal pain. If he doesn't urinate or has vomiting with the outside the litter box use, take him to a vet as soon as possible.
