Good to know

The Hairy Dog has groomed in Phoenix since 2010. Dogs are never caged: after grooming they roam the shop or play in a shaded dog run with separate pens for large and small dogs.

The menu is kept simple, with three choices per breed: a bath, a bath and tidy, or a haircut. Every service includes premium shampoo and conditioner (flea and tick, medicated, specialty or hypoallergenic), a blueberry facial, hand drying, a nail clip and grind, gland expression, ears cleaned and plucked if needed, a face, feet, tail and sanitary touch-up, and 10 to 20 minutes of de-shedding or de-matting depending on breed and size.

The shop also sells pet supplies.

    Slicker brushes

Curly and doodle coats mat close to the skin. Groomers follow a slicker with a metal comb to check they reached the bottom.

Long-haired cats mat first behind the ears, under the legs and on the belly. Short, frequent sessions tend to go better than one long one.
