Good to know

Marie's Pet Grooming began as a one-person business in Marie's home and is now a Fresh Meadows shop with two licensed, certified groomers. Head groomer Tommy handles all breeds and specializes in artistic poodle and schnauzer cuts. The salon is open Tuesday to Sunday by appointment and closed Mondays; it grooms dogs only and no longer grooms cats.

New clients register first by email with the new-client form and records for rabies, distemper (DHPP) and Bordetella. Matted dogs and dogs eight and older need a signed release. Current clients book online, ideally two weeks ahead. No walk-ins.

A groom usually takes three to four hours. The salon calls 20 minutes before your dog is ready; late pickups may be charged a boarding fee. Dogs are never sedated, and owners do not stay during the groom.

Extra brush-outs, de-shedding, dematting, shave-downs and flea treatments cost extra, and dogs that need more handling carry a fee from $25.
