Lucky Paws is a small group of grooming studios in New York City, Long Island and Westchester, under new husband-and-wife owners. The Fresh Meadows groomers have more than 15 years' experience. Styles range from classic breed trims to hand-scissored Asian-fusion faces, and coats are washed with iGroom and Les Poochs products.

Every full service includes a nail trim, ear cleaning and teeth brushing, with external gland expression on request; drying is by soft hand fan. Before a visit you can fill in a consultation form with photos of the look you want, and the groomer goes over it with you at check-in. No sedatives are used.

Cats are groomed at Fresh Meadows on Sundays. If heavy matting means clipping the body short, the groomer asks you first.

Pets should be picked up within five hours of arrival and before closing: past five hours costs $20 an hour, and past closing $35 an hour. Card payments at the counter carry a 3% fee.
