Veterinarians in Portland, OR

Out of hours. 10 of the 74 Portland practices whose website we have read describe urgent or emergency work. They are listed together on the Portland urgent care page. That is what a practice says about itself, not a promise it is open now, so phone before you drive.

Weekends. 34 of the 54 that publish opening hours name a Saturday or Sunday time. The rest publish weekday hours only.

Who owns them. 21 of the 91 listings in Portland are branches of national groups, about 23%; the other 70 trade under their own name. Neither is better on its own, but it changes what to ask: a group branch is more likely to have standard pricing and a phone queue, an independent more likely to have the same veterinarian see your animal each visit. Chain locations are listed together on the chains pages.

Beyond dogs and cats. 53 Portland practices tell us which other animals they treat. 1 sees rabbits, 4 see birds, 1 sees reptiles, 1 sees small mammals, 1 sees ferrets, 1 sees amphibians, 1 sees fish and 3 see other exotics.

What is missing. None of those 53 mentions horses. Practices that see these animals are uncommon everywhere and worth travelling for, so it is worth widening the search rather than assuming the nearest clinic will take one: horse vets nationwide.
