Good to know

Smelly Dog opened in 2005 as the first self-serve dog wash in the Phoenix area and now also offers full-service baths and grooming. Everything is cage free: bathers and groomers dry every dog by hand, and clean dogs rest or play in a lounge until pick-up.

Because dogs mix in the lounge, the shop takes only friendly, non-aggressive dogs.

Extra charges may apply for dogs larger than breed standard, thick or matted coats, hand-scissored or specialty styles, fleas or ticks, and difficult behaviour.

Next door is a dog market with natural, American-made goods and an in-house bakery. Closed on major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Christmas.

Hard floors are where older dogs slip. A runner along their usual route gives them grip.
