Lucky Paws is a small group of grooming studios in New York City, Long Island and Westchester, under new husband-and-wife owners. This small studio takes only a few dogs and cats a day, which suits anxious pups, puppies and seniors; its groomers have 10 and 20-plus years' experience, and weekly availability is limited. Styles range from classic breed trims to hand-scissored Asian-fusion faces, and coats are washed with iGroom and Les Poochs products.

Every full service includes a nail trim, ear cleaning and teeth brushing, with external gland expression on request; drying is by soft hand fan. Before a visit you can fill in a consultation form with photos of the look you want, and the groomer goes over it with you at check-in. No sedatives are used.

Cat grooming and baths are on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Pets should be picked up within five hours of arrival and before closing: past five hours costs $20 an hour, and past closing $35 an hour. Card payments at the counter carry a 3% fee.
