Good to know
Barkbus started in 2017 to end the stressful trip to the salon. Every appointment is one-on-one with a professional pet stylist in a purpose-built, self-contained, climate-controlled Mercedes van parked at your address, with no cages and no other dogs around, and the van never needs to plug into your house for water or power. Owners get photos and updates in real time, and the stylists are trained in canine CPR and first aid.
In Los Angeles the vans cover a large part of the metro, including West Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, the beaches and the South Bay: Alhambra, Beverly Hills, Buena Park, Burbank, Calabasas, Camarillo, Carson, Cerritos, Culver City, El Segundo, Encino, Gardena, Glendale, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Lakewood, Long Beach, Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Marina del Rey, North Hollywood, Northridge, Norwalk, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, San Pedro, Santa Monica, Sherman Oaks, Simi Valley, Studio City, Thousand Oaks, Torrance, Venice, West Hollywood, Whittier and Woodland Hills. Grooms run every day of the week, and first-time appointments usually book within the same week.
Dogs need current Bordetella and rabies vaccinations. Most elderly and disabled dogs can be groomed, though the stylist works alone in the van, so a dog that cannot stand for long or has a history of seizures may not be a fit. There is a 15-minute grace period at drop-off and pick-up, after which waiting is $1 a minute.
