Providence says it was the first animal hospital in Alameda, founded in 1947 when a veterinarian home from World War II began seeing pets in his house and built the hospital underneath it; it is still on that site at 2304 Pacific Ave, remodeled in 2016, and describes itself as locally owned and independent, "not associated with a corporate chain or a multi-location pet store."
