Veterinarians in Philadelphia, PA

Out of hours. 4 of the 36 Philadelphia practices whose website we have read describe urgent or emergency work. They are listed together on the Philadelphia urgent care page. That is what a practice says about itself, not a promise it is open now, so phone before you drive.

Weekends. 20 of the 25 that publish opening hours name a Saturday or Sunday time. The rest publish weekday hours only.

Who owns them. 10 of the 48 listings in Philadelphia are branches of national groups, about 21%; the other 38 trade under their own name. Neither is better on its own, but it changes what to ask: a group branch is more likely to have standard pricing and a phone queue, an independent more likely to have the same veterinarian see your animal each visit. Chain locations are listed together on the chains pages.

Beyond dogs and cats. 26 Philadelphia practices tell us which other animals they treat. 2 see rabbits, 3 see birds, 2 see reptiles, 1 sees amphibians, 1 sees horses and 2 see other exotics.

What is missing. None of those 26 mentions small mammals, ferrets, fish. Practices that see these animals are uncommon everywhere and worth travelling for, so it is worth widening the search rather than assuming the nearest clinic will take one: small mammal vets nationwide, ferret vets nationwide, fish vets nationwide.
