Veterinarians in Allentown, PA

Out of hours. None of the 11 Allentown practices we have read describes itself as taking urgent or emergency cases. That does not mean none does, only that none says so on its own site, so an out-of-hours problem here is worth phoning ahead about rather than driving to the nearest address.

Weekends. 4 of the 8 that publish opening hours name a Saturday or Sunday time. The rest publish weekday hours only.

Who owns them. 1 of the 12 listings in Allentown are branches of national groups, about 8%; the other 11 trade under their own name. Neither is better on its own, but it changes what to ask: a group branch is more likely to have standard pricing and a phone queue, an independent more likely to have the same veterinarian see your animal each visit. Chain locations are listed together on the chains pages.

Beyond dogs and cats. 10 Allentown practices tell us which other animals they treat. 1 sees rabbits, 2 see birds, 1 sees reptiles, 1 sees small mammals, 1 sees fish and 3 see other exotics.

What is missing. None of those 10 mentions ferrets, amphibians, horses. Practices that see these animals are uncommon everywhere and worth travelling for, so it is worth widening the search rather than assuming the nearest clinic will take one: ferret vets nationwide, amphibian vets nationwide, horse vets nationwide.
