Animal Health Care Center is a locally owned practice in Eagle Rock whose staff are Fear Free certified, and its stated care approach includes indoor or outdoor exam areas, calming music, pheromones, and per-pet records of "each pet's unique needs and stress triggers" kept for smoother future visits. It began in 2012 when founder Dr. Lisa Hsuan, a UC Davis veterinary graduate who had worked at the Los Angeles Zoo and done relief work with exotic animals, took over a long-standing neighborhood hospital whose retiring owner had "declined corporate offers in order to keep the practice community based".
