What a dog nail trim costs
- At a grooming salon: a median starting price of $15. The middle half runs $12 to $20, across 1,835 salons.
- At a veterinary practice: median $19. The middle half runs $14 to $21, across 61 practices.
- At a low-cost or nonprofit clinic: median $15. The middle half runs $10 to $20, across 68 clinics.
What can change the price
- Extra handling. Some practices and salons charge more for a dog that needs extra help to stay still, so say so when you book.
- Grinding or filing. Smoothing the nails after the trim is often a separate line on a salon menu.
- With another visit. Some clinics trim nails at a lower price, or at no charge, during a visit for something else. Those prices are not in these figures.
- An exam fee. A practice may charge for the visit as well as the trim. Where a practice publishes an exam fee, it is a median of $75.
What to ask when you call
- "Is a nail trim a walk-in service, or do I need an appointment?"
- "Is there an exam or visit fee on top of the trim?"
- "Do you charge more if my dog needs extra handling?"
