Good to know

The head groomer and owner has groomed since 2006 and opened The Smiling Dog in 2010; she trains every groomer herself. Grooming happens in a daycare-type setting where dogs comfortable with others roam free and get breaks throughout.

The site gives grooming hours as Tuesday to Saturday, 8 am to 7 pm, by appointment. New clients are set up by phone or text.

Grooming dogs need a current rabies vaccine and proof of the DHPP puppy series; cats need rabies and FVRCP. A badly matted coat may be shaved down at the groomer's discretion, and a dog that arrives with fleas gets a flea shampoo at the owner's expense. The Smiling Dog also runs crate-free daycare and boarding.
