Modern Pooch was started by South El Monte pet parents to Apollo, a golden retriever, and Molly, a poodle. Every groomer is certified, with schooling, training and continued development, and the salon works to American Kennel Club grooming safety guidelines. Cat services run Wednesday through Friday.

Pets must be current on rabies vaccination and the record shown before handling. Pets that are pregnant, nursing or in heat are not groomed, nor are pets with open wounds, severe ear infections, stitches, or surgery or a cast removed in the past 30 days. Pets with fleas or ticks get a flea bath, and a $15 charge applies where there is an infestation.

Arriving more than 15 minutes late cancels the appointment and it is rebooked. Matted coats are brushed out where that can be done safely and shaved where it cannot, and de-matting carries a fee based on how long it takes.
