I’m looking for advice about my 4-month-old bearded dragon

Hi! I’m looking for advice about my 4-month-old bearded dragon. We’ve had him since he was about a month old, and he has never stood up and walked normally. He has always kept his belly and rear end low and scooted instead of walking. Three days ago, he may have fallen about 10 inches and landed flat on his back. Since then, he’s been much less active, barely moving around, struggling to hold himself up, and eating less. He can still move all four legs, has passed a small amount of stool, and his belly looks normal. His UVB is an Arcadia T5 10% mounted inside the enclosure about 12 inches from his basking spot. His insects are dusted with calcium without D3. He mostly eats insects and has never been interested in greens. We’re also unsure whether he may have eaten a stink bug or be impacted. Unfortunately, we cannot afford an emergency vet visit right now. Could you please advise us on how urgent this is and whether there are any free or financial-assistance options for getting him examined? Thank you.

Want a licensed vet to look at this too? We will put it in front of the vets who answer here, and post their reply on this thread.

If the bill is the part that's hard

Ask the practice first: many will split a bill in-house, and it costs nothing to ask. If not, these are the two plans most pet owners use.

  • Scratchpay. A payment plan for vet bills you apply for in about a minute, used at the practices that take it.
  • CareCredit. A card for health and vet costs that most practices accept.

PawsRx may be paid when you apply. Approval and terms are the lender's, we never see your application, and we don't choose one for you.
