Good to know

Every service includes a blueberry facial, an argan oil face mask, teeth brushed and gums checked, ears cleaned and checked, shampoo and conditioner matched to the coat, a hand dry and warm air fluff, and nails trimmed.

JRG is cage-free. No cages, just beds for lounging, easy access to fresh water and a real grass patch for potty breaks. Fewer than 15 dogs are groomed each day, so every dog gets individual attention and rest breaks to stay calm.

The bath alone runs 30 to 60 minutes and goes well past the basics, with two facials, an argan oil hydrating face mask and a deep-conditioning treatment.

Two or more groomers commonly work on one dog: bathers who start the transformation, assistants who hand-dry and fluff, and the stylist who brings the finishing touches together.

They recommend starting a puppy as soon as it has had its parvo vaccine, usually at three or four months, and coming weekly or every other week for a bath and tidy through the first six months, so the dog gets used to grooming and gets to socialize.

You get a text 30 minutes before the groom is finished. If you turn up earlier than that, wait outside rather than come in: dogs are usually off-leash on the table, and once they see their person it is hard to finish the groom.
