Guinea pig scratching and lying down more: mange, a fungal infection or irritation?

What they asked

I think my guinea pig might have mange, a fungal infection, or some kind of skin irritation—what should I do? He’s eating well, but he keeps scratching himself. I’m worried because he’s been lying down more than usual over the past two days, and he’s usually much more playful.

Sorry to hear about your guinea pig. It sounds like a veterinarian evaluation as soon as possible would be good. I would do a deep clean of where he stays with a 5% vinegar solution. What is his current diet?
