My dog weighs about 15 lbs. I have a 6 mg melatonin capsule made by Lignans for Life. The ingredients are melatonin 6 mg, microcrystalline cellulose, vegetable cellulose, and vegetable magnesium stearate. There is no xylitol listed. Is 6 mg an appropriate amount for my dog, particularly if I’m trying to help her relax enough for me to trim her nails?”

I advise that melatonin supplementation may not be enough for your dogs relaxation. There is not established evidence for it's efficacy for general anxiety which a nail trim situation would cause. I would try to see a veterinarian that is able to prescribed medications that can address your situation.
