Flea & Tick Prevention

Year-round protection that never lapses.

Vet consultation, compounded medication, and free shipping included. Cancel anytime.

Flea and tick prevention only works when it's consistent — one missed month is all an infestation or a tick-borne disease needs. Yet prevention is exactly the kind of purchase that slips: the box runs out, the vet visit gets postponed, and suddenly your pet is unprotected in peak season.

PawsRx turns prevention into a subscription: an independent licensed veterinarian confirms the right product and dose for your pet's weight and lifestyle, and it arrives every month automatically.

Signs to look for

  • Visible fleas or flea dirt (black specks) in the coat
  • Scratching concentrated at the tail base and hindquarters
  • Ticks found after walks or yard time
  • Pets in wooded, grassy, or warm-climate areas
  • Multi-pet households where one infested pet infests all
  • History of flea allergy dermatitis — one bite can trigger weeks of itching

This list is informational only and is not a diagnosis. Only a licensed veterinarian can evaluate your pet.

How treatment works

The veterinarian will recommend prescription-strength prevention appropriate for your pet's species, weight, and exposure — options include fluralaner or sarolaner-based products and custom topical formulations. Dogs and cats require different products; never use dog flea products on cats.

A prescription is not guaranteed. All prescribing decisions are made solely by an independent licensed veterinarian based on their clinical judgment. If the veterinarian determines your pet is not a candidate for telehealth treatment, you will not be charged. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved.

Common questions

Why do I need a prescription for flea and tick prevention?

The most effective modern preventives are prescription-only because correct dosing by weight and species matters for safety. The video consultation lets a licensed veterinarian confirm the right product for your specific pet.

Do indoor pets need prevention?

Indoor pets have lower risk but not zero — fleas hitchhike on clothing, other pets, and through screens. The veterinarian will give you an honest risk assessment for your situation rather than a blanket upsell.

Is prevention needed year-round?

In most of our service states, yes — fleas survive indoors through winter, and warm-climate states never get a true off-season. Your vet will advise based on your location and lifestyle.
