HIPAA Notice
Last updated: April 2, 2026
At PawsRx, we believe your pet's health information deserves the same level of protection as human health data. This notice describes how we safeguard the health information you share with us and explains your rights regarding that data.
Our Commitment to Protecting Health Information
HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) is a federal law that establishes standards for protecting sensitive human health information. While HIPAA does not technically apply to veterinary care, PawsRx voluntarily applies equivalent data protection standards to all pet health information on our platform.
We do this because we think it's the right thing to do. Your trust matters to us, and that trust starts with how we handle your data.
What Health Information We Collect
Through the course of providing our service, we collect and store the following health-related information:
- Pet health history, including previous diagnoses and ongoing conditions
- Symptoms reported during consultations
- Current and past medications, dosages, and treatment plans
- Veterinary consultation notes and communications between you and your veterinarian
- Prescription records and pharmacy fulfillment details
How Your Information Is Protected
We use multiple layers of security to keep your pet's health information safe:
- Encryption in transit: All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using TLS (Transport Layer Security).
- Encryption at rest: Stored data is encrypted on our cloud infrastructure to prevent unauthorized access.
- Access controls: Only authorized personnel and systems can access health information, and access is limited to what is necessary for service delivery.
- Secure infrastructure: Our data is stored on Supabase, a US-based cloud platform with enterprise-grade security controls, regular audits, and compliance certifications.
- Monitoring: We continuously monitor our systems for unusual activity and potential security threats.
Who Can Access Your Health Information
Access to your pet's health information is strictly limited to those who need it to deliver care:
- You— You always have full access to your own data and your pet's health records.
- Your assigned veterinarian— The licensed veterinarian conducting your pet's consultation reviews health information to make clinical decisions.
- Pharmacy partners— Our compounding pharmacy (Mixlab) receives prescription details necessary to prepare and ship your pet's medication.
- PawsRx platform— Our team accesses information only as needed to operate the Service, provide support, and ensure quality of care.
We do not sell health information. We do not share it with advertisers or any unrelated third parties.
Your Rights
We respect your right to control your health information. You may:
- Access your records: Request a copy of all health information we have on file for you and your pet.
- Request corrections: If any information is inaccurate or incomplete, you can ask us to update it.
- Request deletion: You can ask us to delete your health information, subject to any legal requirements that may require us to retain certain records (such as prescription histories).
How to Exercise Your Rights
To access, correct, or delete your health information, please contact us at hello@pawsrx.io. Include your full name and the name(s) of the pet(s) associated with your account. We will respond to all requests within 30 days.
A Note on HIPAA and Veterinary Care
HIPAA is a US federal law designed to protect human health information. It does not legally apply to veterinary medicine or pet health data. However, PawsRx voluntarily applies data protection standards equivalent to HIPAA because we believe pet owners deserve the same transparency and security guarantees.
This means we follow the same principles that govern how hospitals and doctors' offices handle your medical records — encryption, access controls, audit trails, and strict data-sharing limits — and apply them to your pet's health information on our platform.
